Loukas Bartatilas is an all time friend. We almost graduated simultaneously from architectural schools in different towns (Loukas finished in Volos) and we've done some things together. E.g. back in 2006, his thesis presentation "Vile Stories" on Patission str. was accompanied by a mini compilation inspired by the thesis' context that was designed and curated by My Wet Calvin. Legend says those 25 limited copies traveled from Athens to Volos by KTEL bus on the same day of the presentation.
After school, Loukas left for Germany to do a Master in Bauhaus University Weimar and then moved to Berlin. In the meantime, we were happy to design and develop his official website, an ever expanding archive ambitious enough to host all of his projects. His work is mainly photographic but one should consider his images as a means of critical documentation on things.
As if he was making a triumphal comeback, Loukas is having his first solo exhibition "Urban Details" - a sequel to Vile Stories? - back in Athens, inside an empty shop at Mithimnis str. 27a & Patission str. which has been transformed into a temporary showroom, opening on Thursday 27 of November. The show will last till the 13th of December and is supported by NEON Cultural Foundation’s program “Supporting Creativity”. Find more at http://www.urbandetails.gr/ and on facebook.
